Northern Colorado Child and Play TherapyWouldn't you like to experience the feeling of seeing your children thriving, growing, and feeling happy about themselves and their behavior?

We can help you to better understand your children, help them to better understand you, and help them to grow into happy, vibrant individuals.

Our child counseling approach and our offices are designed to be comfortable, private, friendly and non-threatening for children and families.  We offer a safe place for children and families to grow, without the discomfort you or your child might feel if you went to a psychiatric hospital or public agency for counseling.

Play Therapy

Play therapy provides a safe and healthy place to work through the confusion, anxiety, anger, grief, and many other common emotions children experience.  In their own way and time during therapy, children emerge resilient and resourceful with better coping skills and a healthy world view.

Play is the language of children.  Words are the language of adults.  Play therapy is a tool that clinicians access to help kids express their feelings.  When children are hurting or experiencing change much of what they need to communicate and ultimately work through is expressed in their imagination and in their play.

A trained play therapist understands the metaphorical content of a child's play, and strives to help the child express their needs and discover solutions in a safe, therapeutic environment. Play is the child's natural method of learning, developing, and expressing their feelings.  Play Therapy offers children the opportunity to use the power of their own natural creativity and imagination to heal and grow.

At Foundations Counseling, parents are important allies in the play therapy process and can do much to support and enhance the work their child does in play therapy sessions. Child therapists meet regularly with parents to learn what is happening in the child's life, to share important observations, and to give suggestions on how parents can support their child's therapy.
