Clients find Chris Berger’s style to be a healthy balance of warm compassion, skilled support, and gentle confrontation. He encourages clients’ active participation in achieving results while providing a comfortable, nonjudgmental, and supportive environment.  He focuses on empowering clients to make positive life changes.

At Foundations Counseling, Chris Berger sees clients who present with a variety of issues, which can be divided into three primary areas:

  • Relationship dynamics – pre-marriage counseling, marital difficulties, intimacy concerns, sexual issues, codependency, affair recovery, divorce recovery, second marriages, attachment issues and disorders, conflict resolution, anger management, couples communication skills, adolescent development, school problems, family relationships, parenting skills and training
  • Growth-oriented counseling – life coaching, career counseling, grief and loss
  • Mental health counseling / health and wellness – anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, stress-related issues, obesity and weight loss, sleep disorders, trauma and abuse recovery, drug and alcohol abuse and addiction recovery, sex and porn addiction recovery

Chris has extensive experience working with individuals, couples, adolescents, and families throughout Colorado. He provides a wide variety of counseling services and has worked closely with medical providers, school counselors, judicial services, and other therapists to coordinate client care.

Chris is a National Certified Counselor. He holds a Masters of Arts in Clinical Counseling from the University of Northern Colorado. He is a member of his profession’s national honor society: Chi Sigma Iota. He also holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Film and Television Production from New York University.

Chris received Primary Certification in Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) after studying directly with Dr. Albert Ellis. He is a Certified Prepare/Enrich marriage counselor, has received facilitation training for divorce recovery workshops based on the seminal work of Dr. Bruce Fisher and Dr. Robert Alberti, “Rebuilding: When Your Relationship Ends,” and has also received specialized training in treating sexual addiction from Dr. Patrick Carnes.
