Ethan engages his clients with openness, respect, and curiosity. He offers both the supportive and nurturing relationship needed to feel secure while also challenging the preconceived notions and blind assumptions that often trap us in our problems. Clients appreciate his honest and even approach, as well as the bits of humor he inserts, to keep clients from becoming overwhelmed by their challenges.

Ethan takes a client-centered approach to therapy and recognizes that each client brings a lifetime of relationships, expectations, hopes, fears, and struggles into the room with them. He also understands that relationships, both past and present, influence us in ways we often don't realize. Ethan works with his clients to discover how the relics of their past impact them now and counsels them on how they can move forward with their lives.

Whether you decide to work with him individually or as part of a couple or entire family, Ethan offers the support, insight, guidance, and perspective you need in your therapeutic journey.

At Foundations Counseling, Ethan works with clients who seek therapy for a number of reasons, including:

  • Relationship-oriented issues — communication skills, conflict resolution, dating issues, commitment and attachment issues, pre-marriage counseling, marital satisfaction, relationship boundary issues, in-law boundary issues, sexual and intimacy issues, infertility, male and female role issues, financial disagreements, healing and trust-building after affairs or betrayal, violence and abusive patterns, second marriage counseling
  • Family-oriented issues — couple-to-parenthood transitions, parenting issues, family boundary issues, blended family dynamics, child and adolescent issues, launching, adolescent-to-adulthood transitions, multi-generational family problems, end-of-life and loss of loved ones, empty nest adaptations, extended family dynamics, support for families of the severely mentally ill
  • Self-oriented issues — emotion regulation, anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, anger management, stress management, obsessions and compulsions, body image issues, life transitions, grief and loss, end-of-life issues, religious and spiritual issues, discovering life happiness and purpose, developing a sense of belonging and self-esteem, career counseling, men's issues, sexual issues, sexual addictions recovery, affair and betrayal recovery, divorce recovery, trauma and abuse recovery

Earning a Master of Science degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from the School of Psychology, Family, & Community at Seattle Pacific University, Ethan enjoys working with couples and families. His undergraduate degree is a Bachelor of Science in Marriage, Family, and Human Development from Brigham Young University.

As part of his efforts to further develop his skills in educating and working with families, Ethan earned his Certified Gottman Educator status and teaches the Bringing Baby Home workshop for new and expecting parents. He is also a Certified PREPARE / ENRICH counselor and uses those assessments to help those seeking premarital counseling or marital enrichment. Additionally, Ethan is an experienced mediator with training in basic, victim-offender, parent-teen, and domestic / divorce mediation.

Ethan has prior experience working with couples, families, and individuals at agencies in both the Seattle area as well as throughout Colorado. Prior to joining Foundations Counseling, LLC, Ethan worked as a crisis clinician, assisting individuals who were suicidal or otherwise a danger to themselves or others. This experience has given him a greater appreciation for preventative mental health care.

When away from the office, Ethan likes to spend time hiking and camping, particularly when he is joined by his wife and three children. He is currently in training for the Bolder Boulder and is working towards his goal of running a half-marathon.
