Ginger Schmidt recognizes and understands the challenges that people face when striving for change or growth in their lives. Ginger believes that counseling is an integral part of successful personal development, and is passionate about facilitating growth in her clients’ lives. She works with men and women who are in various states of transition, including professional development, individual growth, and relationship enhancement, as well as sorting through the various challenges that life delivers. Ginger believes that when people make the first step to change, they move toward unconditional self-acceptance. This is a key to remaining mindful of past, present, and potential future issues that may assist in creating and sustaining long-term change in life.

Ginger believes in recovery-oriented care, and adheres to providing integrated treatment to her clients. Her therapeutic style centers on promoting a relationship in which individuals, couples, and families work toward change, exploration, and understanding in life. Ginger supports her clients’ therapeutic journey with compassion and empathy.

At Foundations Counseling, Ginger Schmidt counsels individuals, couples, families, and adolescents, who seek counseling for a wide range of issues, including:

  • Relationship and family issues – couples, partners, and marriage counseling, unresolved conflict, intimacy and attachment issues, divorce recovery, affair recovery, couples communication skills, family relational issues, parenting skills and issues, family members of those coping with mental health or substance abuse concerns
  • Life transitions – career counseling, grief and loss issues, family/relationship role issues, spirituality and religious issues, meaning-in-life concerns, growth/change resistance
  • Mental health counseling – anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, personality disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), PTSD, substance abuse and addiction, stress management, sleep disorders, trauma and abuse recovery, adjustment issues
  • Health and wellness – weight gain/obesity, weight loss, self-esteem issues, self-confidence issues, drug and alcohol abuse and addiction recovery, stress-reduction, motivational complications

Ginger received her Master of Arts Degree in Counseling from Webster University in St. Louis, Missouri. She received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri, double majoring in Psychology and Philosophy. Ginger has spent time working in the health and wellness field, utilizing extensive athletic experience to assist individuals and groups. She strives to combine all of her educational and professional experiences to create a holistic approach to promoting change and growth in people’s lives.

With experience working with individuals, couples, and families, Ginger provides both short-term and long-term counseling and has worked with several community agencies in Eastern Missouri. Her previous experience was in community mental health, working to provide integrated therapeutic services to diverse populations. Ginger worked for Community Treatment, Inc. as the Family Drug Court Counselor, where she provided assessments, treatment planning, and counseling to individuals, couples, and families. She was responsible for coordinating substance abuse and mental health treatment services with the Juvenile Office, Department of Social Services, and the overseeing Circuit Judge. Ginger also worked at Queen of Peace Center, working with women coping with addictions and their families in an effort to work toward stability and change in their lives.
