Christian Counseling in Fort Collins, Loveland and Windsor

Licensed therapy that honors your faith

You want a counselor who takes your faith as seriously as you do, without choosing between solid clinical care and your beliefs. For Christian counseling, call 970.227.2770 or book online, and we will match you with a counselor who fits. Your first meeting is a free consultation.

What is Christian counseling at Foundations?

Christian counseling in Fort Collins, Loveland and Windsor at Foundations Counseling is licensed clinical therapy for people who want their Christian faith included, as much or as little as they choose. Counselors use CBT, DBT, IFS and, for couples, EFT. The first meeting is a free consultation, and most new clients are seen within 48 hours.

What is the difference between a licensed Christian counselor, a pastoral counselor and a lay biblical counselor?

All three can help, and many people draw on more than one. The difference is training and scope. Most licensed professional counselors have at least a master's degree with clinical experience, and Mayo Clinic notes that licensing requirements vary by state. NAMI describes pastoral counselors as clergy members with training in clinical pastoral education. Lay biblical counselors are usually trained church members or ministry staff who offer scripture centered guidance; their training is valuable, but it is not a state mental health license.

At Foundations, every counselor holds a Colorado mental health credential, either a full license or a candidate license practiced under clinical supervision, and each counselor bio lists it. That means your counselor can assess and treat concerns like anxiety, depression, grief and trauma with established methods, while honoring your faith.

Can therapy still work if faith is central to how I want to heal?

Yes. Your faith is part of who you are, so it belongs in the room if you want it there. Early on, your counselor asks how you want faith included. Some clients want prayer at the start or end of a session, scripture reflection, or space to wrestle with questions about God and suffering. Others simply want a counselor who respects their beliefs and will not treat them as the problem. You set the level, and you can change it at any time.

Faith is then woven into established methods:

What does faith based marriage counseling look like compared to regular couples therapy?

The core work is the same as couples counseling: seeing the pattern you keep getting stuck in, rebuilding trust and learning to talk without escalating. Many of our couples counselors use Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). Faith based marriage counseling adds your shared beliefs as a resource, for example exploring what commitment, forgiveness and grace mean to each of you, and praying together if you both want that. Forgiveness is never used to rush past hurt or to excuse harm.

How can pastors and clergy refer someone to Foundations?

Pastors often know first when someone in the congregation is struggling. You can share our free consultation link or our number, 970.227.2770, and the person reaches out when ready. It helps to explain that licensed counseling and pastoral care work well side by side: the counselor treats the mental health concern, and the church continues spiritual care and community. With the client's written consent, a counselor can coordinate with the referring pastor.

What happens in the first sessions?

It starts when you reach out and share what brings you in and whether you want faith included. We match you with a counselor, and your first meeting with that counselor is a free consultation. In the first session, your counselor learns your history, your faith background and what you want to feel different, and together you set a few clear goals. Sessions usually last 50 minutes.

Who will I work with?

Foundations counselors who offer Christian counseling are shown in the team section on this page. You can meet them there, or tell us what matters to you, including your faith, when you reach out, and we will match you. Your first meeting with that counselor is a free consultation. If the first match does not feel right, our Counselor Match Guarantee means we will help you find a counselor who does.

When should I get help right away?

If you are thinking about suicide or self harm, call or text 988, the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, available 24/7. If you are in immediate danger, call 911. If there is abuse, intimidation or fear in a marriage, couples counseling is not recommended; The National Domestic Violence Hotline does not encourage anyone in an abusive relationship to seek counseling with their partner. Call 1.800.799.7233 for confidential support. Questions about medication belong with your physician.

HOW WE INTEGRATE FAITH

You choose how much faith is part of your sessions. Your counselor pairs it with established methods:

Do You Feel...

What brings people to counseling rarely arrives as one clear moment. More often it builds quietly: a feeling that lingers, a pattern that keeps repeating, a sense that something is off. If any of these sound familiar, reaching out to Foundations is a simple first step.

Distant From God

Do you feel disconnected from your faith or struggle to hear His voice in difficult times? Therapy can help you reconnect spiritually while working through life’s challenges.

Overwhelmed by Life's Trials

Are stress, anxiety, or personal struggles weighing on you? Christian counseling offers guidance rooted in scripture and proven therapeutic methods.

Burdened by Guilt or Shame

Are past mistakes, regrets, or unhealthy patterns keeping you from fully embracing God’s grace? Counseling provides a safe place to work through these feelings and find healing.

Unable to Forgive

Do resentment and past hurts feel impossible to let go of? Therapy can help you navigate the path to forgiveness, both for yourself and others, through a biblical perspective.

In Need of Spiritual Guidance

Are you facing decisions or hardships that require wisdom and clarity? Therapy can help you process these challenges while staying aligned with biblical teachings.

Doubt & Uncertainty

Are you questioning your faith, purpose, or life’s direction? It’s natural to have doubts, and therapy provides a safe space to explore these feelings.

In Need of Personal Growth & Accountability

Anyone on a personal development journey who values accountability and wishes to grow both emotionally and spiritually within a Christian context can benefit from counseling.

Debilitating Grief or Loss

Has the loss of a loved one, relationship, or life chapter left you feeling lost or heartbroken? Counseling offers faith-based support to help you process grief and find hope again.

Relationship Difficuties

Are conflicts in your marriage, family, or friendships creating distance? Therapy can help you restore relationships through Christ-centered communication, forgiveness, and understanding.

Answers to Common Questions

Do I have to be Christian to benefit from Christian Counseling?

No, individuals of all faiths or none can benefit from Christian Counseling, especially those who are open to exploring how spiritual beliefs can aid in their therapy.

Is Christian Counseling confidential?

Yes. What you share stays between you and your counselor, with a few legal exceptions your counselor explains at the start, such as a serious risk of harm to yourself or others. Your pastor, church and family are not told you are in counseling unless you give written permission. Because Foundations is private pay, nothing is sent to an insurance company.

What if I'm struggling with my faith?

Christian Counseling can provide a supportive space to explore and address questions or doubts about your faith as part of your therapeutic journey.

What are the costs associated with counseling or therapy sessions at Foundations?

At Foundations, each counseling or therapy session is $200. Your first consultation is always free, and you are able to meet with as many counselors as you need until you find the perfect match.

Does Foundations accept Insurance?

No. Foundations is private pay and does not bill insurance companies. If your plan has out of network benefits, we can give you documentation to submit for possible reimbursement, so check with your plan first. Paying privately keeps your counseling out of insurance records, avoids a required diagnosis, and lets you choose your counselor and how long your sessions last.

What if I need to reschedule my counseling session?

There is no charge for any session cancelled at least 48 hours prior to the scheduled appointment time.

Are you available in the evenings or on weekends?

Yes. Foundations offers early morning, daytime, evening and Saturday appointments, and online sessions can add flexibility. Call 970.227.2770 or book online, tell us what times work for you, and we will match you with a counselor whose schedule fits.

Will my counselor pray with me or use scripture in sessions?

Only if you want that. You decide how much faith is part of your sessions. Some clients want prayer and scripture in every meeting, others want a counselor who simply understands their beliefs, and some come with doubts they want to explore. Tell your counselor what feels right, and you can change your mind as counseling goes on.

Where can I find licensed Christian counseling in Fort Collins?

Foundations Counseling offers licensed Christian counseling at two Fort Collins offices, on Horsetooth Road and on Harmony Road, plus offices in Loveland and Windsor. Online sessions are available anywhere in Colorado. Each counselor's Colorado credential is listed on their bio, and when you reach out we match you with a counselor who integrates faith the way you want.

Can I keep meeting with my pastor while I am in counseling?

Yes. Many clients keep meeting with a pastor while in counseling, and the two often support each other. Your counselor focuses on the mental health side, such as anxiety, grief or a relationship pattern, while your church continues spiritual care. If you want your counselor and pastor to talk, you can sign a written release; otherwise what you share stays private.

What if my pastor referred me to a therapist who is not a Christian counselor?

That can still work well. A good therapist respects your values even if they do not share them, and you can ask directly how they handle faith in sessions. If you want faith to be an active part of your care, tell us when you reach out and we will match you with a Foundations counselor who offers Christian counseling.

What if my spouse does not share my faith?

Couples counseling can still help. Your counselor works with the relationship, not one partner's beliefs, so each of you is heard and respected. Faith can be discussed as something that matters to one partner, including how it shapes values, parenting and decisions, without pressuring the other to adopt it. When you reach out, share what each of you wants so we can match you well.
