Do You Feel...

What brings people to counseling rarely arrives as one clear moment. More often it builds quietly: a feeling that lingers, a pattern that keeps repeating, a sense that something is off. If any of these sound familiar, reaching out to Foundations is a simple first step.

Persistent Self-Doubt

If you constantly question your abilities and worth, it could be a sign that you need self-esteem counseling. This often involves a pervasive sense of inadequacy and a belief that you're not good enough.

Excessive Worry About What Others Think

If you're overly concerned about others' opinions and often alter your behavior or suppress your true self to please others, it might be time to seek help.

Avoidance of Social Situations

Avoiding social interactions due to feelings of awkwardness or fear of being judged can be a symptom of low self-esteem.

Negative Self-Talk

A constant stream of negative and critical thoughts about yourself is a common sign of low self-esteem. This might include harsh criticism over minor mistakes or perceived flaws.

Feelings of Worthlessness

Experiencing deep-seated feelings of being unworthy or not deserving good things in life can be indicative of self-esteem issues.

Difficulty Accepting Compliments

If you struggle to accept compliments and often deflect or question them, it could be due to a lack of self-esteem.

Overly Apologetic Behavior

Frequently apologizing, even when unnecessary, and displaying a tendency to assume blame can be a symptom of low self-worth.

Reluctance to Try New Things

Avoiding new experiences due to fear of failure or embarrassment can be a sign that self-esteem counseling may be beneficial.

Overly Critical of Others

Sometimes, individuals with low self-esteem project their insecurities onto others, becoming unduly critical or judgmental.

Answers to Common Questions

What is self-esteem counseling?

Self-esteem counseling is a therapeutic approach focused on improving an individual's self-worth and confidence. Counselors help clients identify and challenge negative beliefs about themselves, fostering positive self-perception.

How can self-esteem counseling help me?

It can help you develop a more positive and realistic view of yourself, teach you coping strategies for negative thoughts, and improve your confidence in various aspects of life, including relationships and work.

What issues are addressed in self-esteem counseling?

Counseling addresses issues like chronic self-doubt, negative self-talk, social anxiety, perfectionism, fear of failure, and feelings of unworthiness.

What are the costs associated with counseling or therapy sessions at Foundations?

At Foundations, each counseling or therapy session is $200. Your first consultation is always free, and you are able to meet with as many counselors as you need until you find the perfect match.

Does Foundations accept Insurance?

No. Foundations is private pay and does not bill insurance companies. If your plan has out of network benefits, we can give you documentation to submit for possible reimbursement, so check with your plan first. Paying privately keeps your counseling out of insurance records, avoids a required diagnosis, and lets you choose your counselor and how long your sessions last.

What if I need to reschedule my counseling session?

There is no charge for any session cancelled at least 48 hours prior to the scheduled appointment time.

Are you available in the evenings or on weekends?

Yes. Foundations offers early morning, daytime, evening and Saturday appointments, and online sessions can add flexibility. Call 970.227.2770 or book online, tell us what times work for you, and we will match you with a counselor whose schedule fits.

Will my self-esteem counseling sessions be confidential?

Yes. What you share stays between you and your counselor, within the limits Colorado law sets, such as an immediate risk of harm to you or someone else or suspected abuse of a child. Your counselor explains those limits at the start. Because Foundations is private pay and does not bill insurance, no diagnosis is sent to an insurer to pay for your sessions.

What techniques are used in self-esteem counseling?

Techniques include cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness practices, assertiveness training, and exercises to challenge and change negative beliefs.

Can self-esteem counseling help with anxiety and depression?

Yes, as low self-esteem often contributes to anxiety and depression, improving self-esteem can have a positive impact on these conditions.

How do I know if I need self-esteem counseling?

If you often feel inadequate, criticize yourself harshly, or have a persistent sense of not being good enough, seeking self-esteem counseling could be beneficial.

What should I expect in my first self-esteem counseling session?

In the first session, your counselor will typically discuss your goals, background, and what you hope to achieve through counseling, setting the groundwork for future sessions.

Is self-esteem counseling suitable for teenagers?

Yes. Adolescence is when self-image takes shape, so low self-esteem often shows up as harsh self-talk, constant comparison online, perfectionism or avoiding new things. Foundations counselors who work with teens meet with them one on one, and parents can help set goals. If you are a parent, reach out and share what you are seeing, and we will match your teen with a counselor who fits.

Can I do self-esteem counseling online?

Yes. Foundations offers secure online sessions anywhere in Colorado, along with in person sessions in Fort Collins, Loveland and Windsor. Self-esteem work, such as noticing self-critical thoughts and practicing new ways of responding, translates well to video. Some people start online because it feels less exposing and move to the office later, or the other way around.

How long does self-esteem counseling usually take?

It varies. Some people notice their inner critic quieting within a few months of regular sessions, while beliefs about worth that formed early in life often take longer to change. Your counselor sets goals with you, checks progress along the way, and you decide together how often to meet and when you are ready to stop.
